Relevance, Distance and Prominence
Google states that local rankings depend mainly on three factors:
- Relevance: how closely your profile matches what the person is looking for, based on your categories, services and business information.
- Distance: how far your business is from the searcher, or from the location named in the search.
- Prominence: how well known your business is, reflected in reviews, ratings, links and mentions across the web.
Distance is fixed by where you operate. Relevance and prominence are where Google Maps optimization makes the difference.
